Jay Z heads to England as he visits the inspiration of his album Magna Carta... Holy Grail
Jay-Z is one of the world's biggest artists, yet even he needs a little help now and then.
And Jay Z visited the Magna Carta, the inspiration for his latest album, on Sunday at England's Salisbury Cathedral.
The 43-year-old rapper posed with the historic document on the heels of the July 8 release of his album Magna Carta... Holy Grail.
Jay-Z received a warm welcome.
'We know how important Magna Carta, and all it represents, is to people across the globe,' the Very Revd June Osborne said. 'The ideals it embodies are still relevant today.'
'Jay Z, through his album, is creating a huge awareness of this historic document and its modern significance to a huge audience in the run up to its 800th anniversary in 2015.
'We hope to welcome many of his fans here this summer to see the artwork in the Chapter House alongside our Magna Carta.'
The Magna Carta was handed to King John of England in 1215 by the feudal lords, granting certain liberties to the people and holding the King accountable to the law. it established for the first time a concept of higher law - which could not be altered by either courts or rulers of the day.
Six centuries later this concept was embraced by the leaders of the American Revolution as they drew up the U.S. Constitution.
And it seems Jay Z's new album has delighted cathedral bosses.
'This album addresses the lack of rules governing all of our modern advances,' a cathedral statement said. 'We have new technologies and new ways of communicating with each other but we have no boundaries protecting our rights in this new world.'
Beyonce's main man spent about an hour at the cathedral before headlining the Yahoo! Wireless Festival.
He didn't stay for long, however.
Jet-setting Jay quickly hopped back across the pond as he was spotted in Toronto, Canada on Wednesday with his wife and 18-month-old daughter Blue Ivy.
Magna Carta... Holy Grail sold more than 520,000 copies in its debut week, giving the music icon his 13th No. 1 album.
